Singapore – More than A Concrete Jungle

Singapore does not only has HDB Flats & Skyscrapers in her land. There are plenty of greenery sightseeing attractions (garden & parks), safari, & more attractions to visit. This brings me back to Singapore every year at least once.

It is extremely convenient to travel around with MRT (not all country has MRT line from Airport).

Enjoy Singapore differently with plenty of attractions not only Garden By the Bay, Safaris, and Universal Studio. Take more walk to enjoy more of Singapore than you ever have.

Garden By the Bay

  • Getting there: Exit Bayfront MRT station. Take Exit B and follow the underground linkway. Exit and cross the Dragonfly Bridge or Meadow Bridge into Gardens by the Bay
  • Head up to Flower Dome & Cloud Forest as there is more beauty to feast your eyes with

Marina Bay Sands

  • Getting there: Exit Bayfront MRT station
  • The shopping mall not only has branded stuff but has water cruise

Singapore Skyline

  • Getting there: Exit Marina Bay Sands building to the Esplanade – Theatres of the Bay.
  • Best time to view: Sunset or Night View (you will see many photographers stand by during sunset until night time for the perfect shot of Singapore Skyline – you can see the reflection of the trail of lights)

Helix Bridge

  • Getting there: It is connected to Marina Bay Sands
  • This bridge represent human DNA and it is quit stunning during night
  • You can view a panoramic view of skyline

Merlion Park

  • Getting there: Exit Raffles Place MRT station. Follow Exit G and to Fullerton Hotel. Follow the Merlion Park pedestrian signs
  • Located in front of Fullerton Hotel and overlooking Marina Bay
  • Admiring the bay during sunset or stay for the night to view Wonder Full Show at Marina Bay Sands (opposite Merlion Park)

People of the River

  • Getting there: Exit Raffles Place MRT station, on the left of Cavenagh Bridge, you will come across freeze motion of a group of five naked boys diving off the bridge and going for a swim.
  • There are other statues there as well.

Cavenagh Bridge

  • This bridge is Singapore’s oldest bridge which is about the 142-year-old

Universal Studio

  • Getting there: Exit Harbour Front MRT station. Take Exit E to Vivo City and walk to level 3 to board the Sentosa Express. Alight 1 stop later at Waterfront station.
  • Allocate 1 day for this. Avoid public holiday where you can play more (not spending time to line up)

Singapore Flyer

  • Getting there: Exit Promenade MRT station. Take Exit A and look for pedestrian signs to Singapore Flyer. Its about 5 minutes walk to Singapore Flyer.
  • The view from the stop gives you the overview of Garden of the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, Skyline.

Yueh Hai Ching Temple (The Love Temple)

  • Need some love? Visit this Love Temple to pray Yue Lao (a black god with red strings and flowing beard – elder of the moon deity). He is believe to be a matchmaker who ties red strings (symbolize marriage, love and romance)between couples who are destined for each other.
  • Simply place a red string, which is sold at 10 cents, and mutter a prayer. You can even scribble notes on red prayer papers and then burning it in their huge incense burners. Yue Lao also is deity for happiness, preserving good relation ties with family, relatives and friends.
  • Getting there: Exit Raffles Place MRT station. Exit D – walk about 3 mins.
  • Add: 30B Phillip Street
  • Operating Hours: 7.30 am – 5.30pm (daily)

The Southern Ridges

  • Need some greenery? Walk this 10 km Southern Ridges.
  • It is an open spaces that connect Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, HortPark, Kent Ridge Park and Labrador Nature Reserve
  • This walk 3 – 5 hours depending on your speed
  • Getting there: There are a few entrances:
    • Bus 197 from Clementi MRT station to “Opp Jin Tai Primary School” bus stop, next to Clementi Woods and a short distance to West Coast Park (via West Coast Link).
    • Kent Ridge MRT station (Exit B). Turn left as you come out of the station and the first street you’ll come to is Science Park Dr. You’re already on the ‘suggested Southern Ridges Trail’ as described below: you need to follow the street eastwards to get to Kent Ridge Park by the lake.
    • Buses 61, 97, 100, 166 from Harbour Front MRT station to “Opp Gillman Heights” bus stop, right next to Hort Park.
    • Harbour Front MRT station, Exit D, right at the start point of the Marang Trail to Mount Faber Park.
    • Harbour Front MRT station (Exit D) provides easy access to the base of Mount Faber and the stairway leading to the top.

Kranji War Cemetery

  • The Kranji War Memorial honours the men and women from the Commonwealth who died in the line of duty during World War II.
  • Getting there: Exit Kranji MRT station. Walk to the bus stop at the MRT on Woodlands Road and board bus 160, 170, 178, 925, 960 or 961 [bus stop 45139] and alight at Kranji War Memorial two stops later
  • Operating Hours: 8am – 6.30pm

Chinese Garden

  • Getting thee: Exit Chinese Garden MRT station
  • It is a nice park to visit to get out of the “City” feel. Some people visit this park for photo taking session (Wedding, Graduation)

Bukit Timah Railway Station

  • Non-operating train track. It is a good spot for photo taking session (some even come for wedding photo shooting)
  • Getting there: Exit Botanic Gardens MRT station. Walk towards Bus Stop at Bukit Timah Road. Take buses 66, 151, 154, 170, 67, 171 and alight 12 stops later at Bukit Timah Road, King Albert Park.

Botanical Garden

  • Beautiful landscape with greenery & flower

  • Operating Hours: 5am – 12am (Daily)

Parkroyal On Pickering

  • For those who like to take archictectural photo, you may head to Parkroyal on Pickering.
  • Getting there: Exit Chinatown MRT station

River Safari

  • A must visit Safari, as has one of the world’s largest collections of freshwater fauna including 40 threatened species. You can get to visit Giant Pandas (Kai Kai and Jia Jia) as well.
  • Getting there: Take MRT train & connecting bus as follow
